This is considered to be a big win for Star who serious competition from 24 other companies who picked up the invitation to tender to bid for the television and digital rights. What’s interesting is that Sony Pictures Network had acquired the media rights in 2008 for 8200 crores which in itself was huge but Star India paid almost double the money to have the decision in their favor this time around. This just goes on to show how the craze of the Indian Premier League has increased over all these years.

The CEO of Star India Uday Shankar quoted,” I’d just like to convey my delight at finally being able to bring the IPL to what we believe is the rightful home of cricket in the country and elsewhere. We would also like to thank the BCCI for choosing us as their appropriate partners. IPL is a very powerful property and we would remain committed to the growth of sports in the country and hope it would be driven by the power of cricket”, he concluded.
