South Africa made around 65 runs last night with the loss of 2 wickets. They still had a lead of close to 150 runs with 8 wickets in hand. This was the situation at the end of day 2. That’s how quickly this Test Match progressed. Whatever happened before was past. India was in trouble, Hardik came to the rescue and India were barely holding on but there was no doubt that they showed a lot of fight and character.
Nothing happened on day 3 and South Africa was still ahead in the game and if anything it only reduced India’s chances considering the Proteas were a little ahead and an entire day got washed out. This clearly meant that even if South Africa would have scored 150 runs more and got the lead to the 300 run- mark, India would have been on the defense and there would have only been 1 result possible.
But this is not the India who likes to defend, rather they believe that attack is the best defense. We saw that in Virat Kohli’s team selection at toss time on day 1 even when he was criticised by millions. How he and his boys put the Proteas under pressure today, surely won a million hearts and rightly so. The respect of the team has increased massively as the Indian bowlers managed to bundle South Africa for as less a score as 130.
If there was any doubt that India doesn’t have a good pace attack- all those thoughts were diminished as everyone contributed equally. While Bhuvneshwar and Pandya got 2 wickets each, debutant Bumrah and Shami picked up 3 wickets each- 6 collectively to wrap up South Africa. The only bowler who did not manage a wicket and to be fair to him, he only bowled a solitary over.
As we type, the internet is going mad after India’s splendid bowling performance in overseas conditions. Everyone is tweeting about it and it sure feels like Christmas all over again back home in India. Here are some of the best Tweets which you might wish to read.
