While the rain gods being kind, the packed stadium at the Eden Gardens was surely in for a treat. For starters, India won the toss and decided to bat first. With a bit of help from Rahane and a lot of help from Captain Kohli, India managed to pile up a fighting 252 on a pitch which according to Steve Smith was the greenest ever he has seen in India.
Virat Kohli in that process almost overtook Ricky Ponting’s tally of 30 International Centuries but unfortunately inside-edged a Counter- Nile delivery back to his stumps. Australia in their pursuit to chasing down 253 runs certainly did not start the way they would have liked to. Bhuvneshwar Kumar got Cartwright and Warner before Australia could put up double digits on the board. Travis Head and Steve Smith stitched a decent partnership before Chahal got Travis caught by Manish Pandey when the score was 85.
It was completely one-way traffic post that for Team India with the wrist spinners taking over and the Australian batsman having absolutely no idea on what was happening around them. While doing so, Kuldeep Yadav created history by becoming only the Third Indian Bowler to achieve a Hat- Trick in One Day International Cricket by removing Matthew Wade, Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins in 3 successful deliveries leaving Australia in deep trouble. In 3 deliveries they came down from 145 for the loss of 5 wickets to the loss of 8 wickets.

It was just formality after that and India wrapped up another clinical performance and increased their dominance at home. Australia on the other hand, haven’t won a single One Day International for more than approximately 10 games in a row now and they would be eager to turn it around in Indore.
In case you missed the Kuldeep Yadav Hat- Trick, here is the video.
