For starters, no he was modest enough as expected to not name himself even though a few would argue that he deserved a place considering he played the best Australian Team at their peak and made life miserable for them. So let’s get straight to the point. So who all fits in ‘Very Very Special Laxman’s’ dream X1 out of the currently active players?
Well, he chose the explosive Left Handed Batsman from Australia- David Warner as the first opener along with one of the calmest heads cricket has ever produced- Hashim Amla. The charismatic Kane Williamson from New Zealand featured at one down while there were no surprises that Virat Kohli retained his usual number 4 spot.
He went with England and Australia’s best players Joe Root and Steve Smith at 5 and 6 respectively. Interestingly, VVS did not pick a usual keeper and was tempted to give some additional responsibility to the Superman- Ab De Villiers by handing him the wicketkeeping gloves and also asking him to do some magic with the bat at the all-important 7th position.
One of the best All- Rounders in the World Shakib Al Hasan was at number 8 with the fastest man ever to 300 wickets in Test Cricket- Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed the 9th position. Laxman’s fast bowling department was dominated by Australians as he gave a nod to both Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood at 10 and 11 respectively.
