There has been a lot of talk that the likes of MS Dhoni and Suryakumar Yadav would miss the 2020 World T20 bus if the IPL gets cancelled due to the terror of Covid-19. One person’s loss is another one’s gain and we list out 3 cricketers who might benefit from the IPL 2020 getting cancelled.
1) Manish Pandey – The right-hander has done a decent job in the limited T20 opportunities he’s got and that might be enough to keep his position for the World T20. Had the IPL happened and someone like Suryakumar done well, Manish’s selection would have been in jeopardy.
2) Rishabh Pant – The Delhi baster has had an year to forget, be it his batting or keeping. With KL Rahul cementing his spot as a keeper batsman, Rishab Pant would have potentially lost his spot had MS Dhoni lit the IPL on fire. For now it seems like he’ll be India’s reserve wicket-keeper for the World T20.
3) Washington Sundar – Virat Kohli has publicly backed spinners who are capable with the bat lower down the order. That might work in Sundar’s favour as far as his spot in the World T20 squad is concerned. However, had someone like a Kuldeep Yadav found his touch in the IPL, the Tamil Nadu spinner could have lost his spot.
