3 players who missed out on a chance to captain India

India has a billion cricket admirers and most kids aspire to don the blue colours upon growing up. However, the sad truth is that only 11 can walk out in the park wearing an India jersey and that leads to a lot of heartbreaks. What is even tougher to do is to captain the Indian team. Here is a list of cricketers who could have been tried as Indian captains, but missed out for some or the other reason.

1) Yuvraj Singh – Yuvraj Singh could have been Rahul Dravid’s replacement as the skipper of the Indian team but the selectors decided to hand over the reigns to MS Dhoni on a certain Sachin Tendulkar’s request. Yuvraj lost form at the wrong time and Dhoni led India to a World T20 final and then didn’t look back.

2) Gautam Gambhir – Gautam Gambhir has been a stand-in Indian skipper but never got the full time mantle. In fact, after the drubbing in England and Australia in 2011, the Delhi southpaw could have been India’s captain but the N Srinivasan led BCCI denied the proposal.

3) Rohit Sharma – Like Gambhir, the Mumbai Indians’ skipper has also been a stand in skipper in many games but not a full time captain. Virat Kohli is younger than Rohit Sharma in age and it doesn’t look like Virat is slowing down anytime soon.
