This is the season of picking current World 11’s and all time playing 11’s, be it a country or the entire world. That’s the best way to reminisce the great players and matches of the past, since the present has very little in store for us and the future is uncertain to say the least. In keeping with the same trend, Aakash Chopra recently picked his current ODI World 11.
He strictly kept form in the recent months as a criterion and didn’t let reputations affect his decision making. Having said that, a couple of selections were a little eyebrow raising, especially that of Kuldeep ahead of Chahal and the omission of Man of the World Cup Kane Williamson and Babar Azam. He also preferred Shami over Bumrah, which in white ball cricket is a bit hard to believe.
Chopra chose Rohit and Shai Hope as his openers, with Hope also been given the wicket keeping duties. Virat Kohli would be one down, followed by Ross Taylor, who has had a stellar couple of years. At number 5, Aakash chose Eoin Morgan, more for his brand of captaincy than anything else. Then the two best all rounders Shakib and Stokes would complete the lower order batting. Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Lockie Ferguson of New Zealand would make up the bowling of this side.
