Albie Morkel might not have ever been in the top-5 all-rounds in the world but he does have a fan following in India, thanks to his time with the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.
He once hit Virat Kohli for 28 runs in a single over in the IPL 2012 which was his ‘Claim To Fame Moment’. The all-rounder who retired from all forms of the game in January 2019 in a recent interview opened up about his stint with the CSK unit and singled out their leader Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Morkel quoted, “He plays a big role. We all know how big Dhoni is in India. He is one of the best T20 and white-ball players ever to play the game and if you get him as a leader, it is going to bring success as he knows how to get the best out of his players,”. He further added that he truly believed that Dhoni the ‘Brand Matters’ and also let everyone that the wicket-keeper batsman is still one of the fittest players in the team still more than capable to run the entire show for the Chennai based franchise.
Meanwhile, Morkel was recently applying his trade for the South Africa Legends in the Road Safety World Series before the league got called off and rightly so amid Coronavirus concerns.
