All cricket fans are reminiscing the good old days of live cricket in this very difficult Covid-19 time. There are some anecdotes and incidents that capture the collective consciousness of the fans more than others.
One of these incidents took place when Pakistan toured India in 2005. More specifically, it happened during the 4th encounter of the series that was played at Ahmedabad. Any India v Pakistan match is high-octane and there is constant sledging between players of the two arch-rivals. What made this particular occasion unique was that the verbal assault was amongst teammates.
Nehra had been hit for a six by Boom Boom Afridi and next ball the Delhi lad came in charging and bowled a good length delivery, angling away from the right hander. Afridi went for a characteristic slog and edged it between Dhoni and first slip Rahul Dravid. MSD didn’t put in a great effort and couldn’t complete the catch. It was at that point that Ashish Nehra lost his cool and used some obscenities to let the wicket-keeper know what the bowler felt about his effort.
