There has been a lot of talk and cricket news around the famous ‘Mankading Incident’ which involved Ravichandran Ashwin and Jos Butler last year in the IPL 2019.

The Tamil Nadu born off spinner who was the captain of the Kings XI Punjab last year is all set to play for the Delhi Capitals this year in the IPL 2020. Interestingly, the Head Coach of the Delhi Capitals, Ricky Ponting, made it pretty clear that he would not support ‘Mankading’ and also let everyone know that he plans to speak to the man himself once he meets him in person.

The Former Australian Skipper quoted, ” But this is not within the spirit of the game, not in the way I want, at least with the Delhi Capitals anyway,” he said while speaking on The Grade Cricketer Podcast.

The jury was divided as Ashwin has been pretty clear since day 1 that he has done nothing wrong. While the old ‘Spirit’ of the game debate has been triggered all over again, the 33 year old came up with a pretty interesting solution . The former Kings XI Punjab skipper believed that while everyone enjoys watching bowlers getting smacked these-days,, this was indeed a good solution.

What is the solution Ravichandran Ashwin gave?

“Make it a free ball for the bowler. If the batsmen gets out . if a batsman gets out of that ball, the batting team will be docked 5 runs”.

Ashwin also compared the same with a “Free Hit’ which works in the favour of a batsman if a bowler makes a mistake.

Ashwin reacts to Ricky Ponting’s Mankading Comment!

“Ricky Ponting hasn’t yet reached (Dubai). After he comes, we will sit for a chat with him. He said he wants to have a conversation. We have already spoken over the phone. It was a very interesting chat,”. “What happens sometimes is Australians’ messages in English get lost in translation and reach us with a different meaning. Even some of their jokes become news. That’s what it is and next week I will reveal a bit more about my conversation with Ricky,” he added

Well, it clearly seems that while both Ricky & Ashwin are being all civil about it, both seem to be very clear about their respective stands and the off-spinner doesn’t seem in a mood to take this one sitting down either! What if they disagree? Let’s hope all the differences if any are soon sorted out ahead of the IPL 2020.
