Over the past 3-4 years no issue has plagued South African cricket as much as Kolpak. There has been a mass exodus of ‘white’ talent that has drained to the UK. This racial policy of playing a certain number of players with coloured skin and the financial instability of the CSA have further fuelled the fire.
The latest South African to take the Kolpak route is Dane Paterson. The right-arm quick played 4 ODI’s, 8 T20I’s and 2 Tests for the proteas and was a bright young prospect. He has been in and out of the South African side and that has probably been the motivation for him to effectively pull the plug on his international career.
The news wasn’t announced in the media but only when the Cobras (South Africa Domestic side) announced their contracted player list, did the public come to know of Patersons desicion. His name wasn’t in the list of contracts and then Ashwell Prince explained the reason. Paterson is believed to be joining Nottinghamshire.
