MS Dhoni is likely to be in the scheme of things for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022, according to franchise’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan. He also added that CSK aren’t looking at anyone else to replace the veteran cricketer anytime soon.
“I don’t think it is going to be his final year. This is my personal view and I don’t think we are looking at anybody now,” Viswanathan told the Indian Express.
The Super Kings had a forgettable season last year, finishing seventh out of eight teams in UAE. However, the side is hopeful of a turnaround in the upcoming edition of the cash-rich tournament which is set to take place in India.
Skipper Dhoni himself failed to hit the purple patch as he could only manage to score 200 runs in 12 innings at an underwhelming strike rate of 116.27. Last year, N Srinivasan, the vice-chairman and managing director of India Cements, owner of the franchise had hinted that Dhoni would be retained at the much-talked about mega auction. The auction though didn’t take place due to the pandemic, however, Dhoni is likely to lead the three-time IPL winning side next year as well. Chennai will play their first game of the season against Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
