While on one side everyone is all excited about the IPL, there is also a bit of an hindrance with reports coming in about the possibility of England and Australian players missing a few matches due to the England vs Australia T20 series which gets over on the 16th of September.
While the IPL 2020 is all set to get underway on the 19th of September . the IPL Governing Council had earlier stated that the players will need to quarantine for a minimum of a week after landing in the UAE before they can step on the field of play. However as per the recent statement of the RCB Chairman, Sanjay Churiwala, he seems confident that the IPL organisers will relax this rule as the incoming players will already be quarantining in the bubble created within the Australia vs England T20 series.
Churiwala quoted, “If the players continue to be in a bio-bubble environment and they don’t come in contact with general public, then they can play the matches soon after landing in the UAE”. He did admit though that they would need to immediately be tested as soon as they land and will need to go through a rigorous process in order to get a shot at starting their IPL campaign on time.
With the Chairman of an IPL team making such a big statement, it only seems to be a matter of time before the BCCI will make the official announcement. While there are 29 players in total from England and Australia who will apply their trade during the IPL 2020, the management and fans of the Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad would be the happiest of them all!
Just imagine starting your campaign without David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Jos Butler, Steve Smith? Well……now maybe not! And we shall leave it to that!
