When you think about the Kolkata Knight Riders, your mind always starts thinking about Gautam Gambhir. After 3 forgetfull years in the IPL, it was Gambhir who got their campaign back on track and his been bleeding purple ever since.
The left-handed southpaw has scored above 3000 runs for KKR in the IPL and has also lead them to be ‘Champions’ twice. While the former Knight Riders captain in his tenure always stressed about having a positive team environment, Gambhir felt quite disappointed with Andre Russel’s latest statement.
Russel a few days ago stated that he does not feel good, rather he was feeling quite low due to the atmosphere in the KKR camp. He also felt that the decision making in the camp and the strategies which are being made were hampering the progress of their team.
While many believed it to be an indirect dig at Dinesh Karthik, Gautam Gambhir was certainly not impressed by Russel coming out with it on the public domain. The cricketer turned politician quoted, “It’s unfortunate. We had created a legacy after what KKR had gone through in the first three years. We have worked really hard to create a legacy, create a culture, and for seven years we had given our blood, heart and soul to it. Now suddenly players come out in the open and start talking about the culture. It is not a happy environment, that kind of stuff,”
Having said that, Gambhir also wished the Knight Riders all the luck and expressed his desire to see the KKR unit as Champions in the next season if not this one. Interestingly, post-Russel’s statement, KKR have indeed been finding their form back and we will leave it to that.
