Hero of the World Cup final, Gautam Gambhir has blasted a web portal for glorifying the legendary MS Dhoni six that resulted in the fulfilment of a billion dreams. The southpaw made his displeasure public on social media and went on to say that the prestigious tournament was won due to a team effort and not just because of the Dhoni six that finished off the proceedings.
On this day in 2011, India lifted the Cricket World Cup after 28 long years. Finally, toast of the nation, Sachin Tendulkar’s dream was over and the much coveted trophy was in his cabinet. Ironically, the two heroes of the final were Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni, who for some reason don’t share the best of relations anymore. While none of them have come out in the open about it, the friction isn’t lost on keen observers.
The cricketer turned politician has always been someone who wears his heart on his sleeve and doesn’t shy away from making his thoughts public, irrespective of the controversy creating potential they have. The Delhi based former cricketer has often alluded to the fact that he believes in the age old maxim, ‘a captain is only as good as his team’. One just hopes that the day which is a celebration for Indians isn’t marred by this controversy.
