There is no doubt that Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the best spinner the Indian Cricket Team has in their armory at the moment. On the other hand, there is also no doubt that Harbhajan Singh was one of the best India had.
While it seems like the former ace Indian spinner who was also known as the ‘Turbanator’ in his prime is quite unhappy with the man who replaced him- Ravichandran Aswhin. Having said that, there is no doubt that Ashwin’s graph is going down and ‘Bhaji’ might not have meant it all as a personal attack, former Indian Cricketer Farokh Engineer thinks otherwise.
Harbhajan Singh had recently lashed out at the Tamil Nadu born spinner for getting injured during the start of every series which he believed affected the plans of the Indian Cricket Team. He had also believed that post-India’s first test against England, Ashwin seems to have lost his mojo and predicted Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja to completely sideline Ravichandran in the near future.
In response, Engineer hit back at Harbhajan’s comments and quoted, “Ashwin is a great bowler. It appeared to me he (Harbhajan) was critical of Ashwin. You don’t wash dirty linen in public especially on an off-spinner who has replaced you. It’s like (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni criticizing (Rishabh) Pant. It’s not cricket,”
Ashwin is currently not a part of India’s ODI squad and it seems like Harbhajan Singh never will be until he has a magical IPL 2019. Having said that, there is no doubt that the ‘Turbanator’ was a champion in his days and his hat-trick against Australia would go down in the record books as one of the most beautiful moments in Indian Cricket. We would love to know your opinion on this one though. Were Harhabjan Singh’s comments on Ashwin justified? Do let us know what you feel in the comments section below.
