What promised to be a ‘1983’ moment has unfortunately fast turned to a ‘2003’ moment. Much like the forgetful Men’s 2003 World Cup Final, the women in blue let the big occasion get to them.
Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney came out like women possessed and were hell bent on putting the Indians under pressure. India looked nervous from the outset and lacked the sharp edge which made them the only unbeaten team in the tournament enroute to the final.
In the post match press conference, birthday girl Harmanpreet Kaur was obviously disappointed. Having said that, she was very positive about her troops and said that this team trusts each other.
When asked about where it all went wrong in the finals, The captain put the blame down to the fielding. India dropped both Healy and Mooney and it cost the visitors dearly.
Further Kaur felt that this would be huge for the women’s game in India and she was hopeful an IPL style tournament would soon start which will further throw up young talent.
