The deadly Coronavirus has the entire world worried. The flu-like virus which originated from the Chinese city of Wuhan has spread to approximately 80 countries around the globe and unfortunately, India is no exception. There have already been a few dozen cases identified in India and that has set off the panic button. Sporting events across the globe have been impacted and with the IPL coming up it is a huge cause of concern for the BCCI.
Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI president maintained a brave stance and said that the cash-rich league will go-ahead as per the schedule and added that all the precautionary measures will be strictly adhered to. However, according to a report by the Indian Express, there has been a flurry of activity in the BCCI corridors with a spew of internal meetings taking place. The board had approached the Union Sports Ministry for further clarifications but they were directed to the Union Health Ministry as the Sports Ministry has very little say on the matter.
The problems for the BCCI don’t just end there as even if they manage to take all precautions and pull off the event, the attendance might still be the issue. There have been health advisories issued across the country to avoid public places and that might result in low attendance.
