ICC mulling postponing World Test Championship


The Coronavirus threat is increasing by the day. Most countries in the world have been affected by the outbreak of this highly transferrable virus. The sport and events industry has been very badly affected and major global events have been called off or postponed indefinitely.

The biggest sporting event of all, the Olympics, scheduled to be held in Tokyo this year has also been postponed and that has sent tremors amongst the sporting world. Cricket is no exception to this and the IPL which has already been postponed to 15th April, now looks certain to be cancelled this year. The 2020 ICC World T20 to be held in Australia later this year might also be affected.

The latest casualty to the Covid-19 might be the ICC World Test Championship. There have been many series that are a part of the WTC like Sri Lanka vs England that have already been postponed. The final is scheduled to be played in June 2021 at Lords. In the annual general meeting of the ICC, which is to be held via teleconference on March 29th will discuss the potential postponement of the finals of the World Test championship final. One does understand that this is a humanitarian crisis and major steps have to be taken.
