In the coming few days, India will take on the Proteas, South Africa in a 3 Match T20I and ODI series at home. According to an ANI report, it is possible that full time Indian team captain Rohit Sharma would not be leading the team and instead the top order left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan would take the charge. The ANI report additionally expressed that T20 WC-bound players are probably going to be given a break, in order to stay fit and fresh. There are high chances that the Indian team might get announced today.

“Yes, both the squads can be named next week. Anyway, ICC Deadline to name the squads is not too far and selectors are likely to select both the squads next week.”, informed a BCCI official to InsideSport last week.

The South Africa tour of India will begin on 28th September, before that Australia is also going to tour India. The Australian team has already announced its squad for both the India series as well as the T20 World Cup. In any case scenario the squad which is selected for the T20 series against Australia will be the same as the one picked for the T20 World Cup.

India’s lead pace bowler, Jasprit Bumrah who was unavailable for Asia Cup, due to injury, is undergoing rehab at NCA and his availability status is still unclear, confirmed by the BCCI official.

“Again, it’s too early to say. We will discuss the options once he is fit. He is not fit currently. We are hopeful he will be back. But we can only say for sure when he passes the fitness test. In any case, he will never be rushed even for the sake of T20 World Cup. We have time for T20 WC and we will see how it progresses,” the BCCI official had said.
