Explosive opener Chris Lynn is set to play against Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2021 tournament opener. The right-hand batsman will replace Quinton de Kock in the playing eleven. De Kock will have to undergo a mandatory one-week of quarantine as per the protocols set by the BCCI.
Lynn has played 41 IPL games, scoring 1280 runs at a strike rate of 140.66. De Kock, on the other hand, has played 66 games and scored 1959 runs at an average of 31.60. He was instrumental in Mumbai winning last year’s IPL in UAE. The southpaw amassed 503 runs at an average of 35.92.
However, the defending champions might not miss De Kock’s service due to a star-studded line-up. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya and Surya Kumar Yadav make Mumbai one of the favorites in this year’s event.
Mumbai Indians hold the bragging rights against the Virat Kohli-led side. The five-time champions have come out victorious on 17 occasions out of 27 outings. Meanwhile, RCB will be boosted by the addition of Glenn Maxwell in the squad. The Australian all-rounder has been hot and cold in the money-spinning event of late but his expertise could prove to be the difference this season. The Bangalore-based franchise will once again bank on the duo of skipper Kohli and AB de Villiers to help them get off to a winning start.
