Chennai Super Kings have roped in Jason Behrendorff as a replacement for Josh Hazlewood. The Australian quick turned out for Mumbai Indians in last year’s IPL. The pacer scalped five wickets in as many outings in Mumbai’s title-winning season.
The official website of the Indian Premier League has confirmed the news. Hazlewood pulled out of the IPL in order to spend time with his family. According to sources, the strict bio-bubble life is considered to be the reason behind Hazlewood’s last minute withdrawal.
“It’s been a long 10 months in bubbles and quarantine at different times, so I decided to have a rest from cricket and spend some time at home and in Australia in the next two months,” Hazlewood was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
Chennai will begin their campaign against last year’s finalists Delhi Capitals on April 10. The MS Dhoni-led side had a poor season last year. The three-time champions will look to rectify the drawbacks and put up a good show this year. Availability of experienced campaigner Suresh Raina is a bonus for the side. Raina had pulled out of last year’s IPL citing personal reasons. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is fit again and he is likely to play on Saturday.
