Irfan Pathan responds to Mohammed Kaif on his remark that only Balaji, Yuvraj and Kaif himself would have passed the Yo-Yo test

Ever since Virat Kohli has come to the helm of Indian Cricket, fitness has been made as much a priority as much as form. While there are some who say that he has taken it too far and sometimes precocious talent is churned out just in the name of fitness, the Kohli-Shastri regime have stuck to their guns. Keeping that in mind, passing the Yo-Yo test has been made compulsory in order to don the blue jersey.

It’s no secret that a big gun like Yuvraj Singh also missed out on selection due to failing the Yo-Yo test. To some extent this has brought results and India’s fielding has improved leaps and bounds. Recently, one of India’s greatest fielders of all time Mohammed Kaif had stated that back in the day only Balaji, Yuvraj and he himself would have passed the Yo-Yo test.

One of his teammates at the time Irfan Pathan while responding to him said that he wasn’t far behind Kaif and basically didn’t agree with his notion. “I heard your statement that in our time if the yo-yo test was there, only Balaji, you and Yuvraj would’ve passed. Fir hum kya kar rahe the… chane bech rahe the hum? (laughs) (What we were doing? Were we selling nuts?) I used to run alongside you competitively, you used to make 16, and I did 15.5 on average,” claimed Irfan.
