Almost every cricketer is busy giving an interview on social media these days and Irfan Pathan is no different. He has done quite a few lives during the lockdown with players like Mohammad Shami and Shikhar Dhawan to name a few and this weekend he took some time out for the man behind Sports Tak, Vikrant Gupta.
In an exclusive interview with the leading sports channel, Pathan took us back the memory lane and spoke about India’s test match against Faisalabad, in 2006 when the duo absolutely smoked it to all parts of the ground. While the wicket-keeper batsman scored 148, Pathan gave him good company as he added 90 runs to his own tally to provide their team a much needed 150 run partnership.
Adding some more light on that game the Pathan from Baroda spoke about his plans to counter Shoaib Akhtar who just wasn’t bowling like he was on another planet but was also throwing many verbal volleys and hurling abuses towards Dhoni and Pathan. The left-handed all-rounder then decided to come up with a master-plan. Pathan quoted, ” I went up to Dhoni and told him that I will be the one giving it back to Akhtar and you just take a back seat and keep on smiling whenever Akhtar says something to you. I told Dhoni not to respond which might further irritate the Rawalpindi express.
What happened next? Well, this is something which certainly nobody could even expect in their wildest dreams. Akhtar indirectly threatened Pathan and told him that he will get Dhoni and Pathan picked up from his house if they messed with him further. Pathan could not believe it, neither could Dhoni but in the end, the plan worked as Akhtar seemed to have lost his line and length while Dhoni and Pathan nicely settled in to build a solid partnership for Team India.
