Pakistan batting legend Javed Miandad has slammed the PCB and Pakistani selectors for backing non performers and giving them a long rope. The right hander felt that this emboldened the under performers to take their place for granted and that’s why the Pakistani team is not amongst the top cricketing nations in the world currently.
In a highly charged statement, the legend stated that not one current Pakistani batsman would warrant a place in top teams like Australia, England and India. What seemed to irk Miandad was Ahmed Shehzad’s recent statement that he could represent Pakistan for 12 more years. Shehzad, who finds himself out of favour when it comes to national selection was once thought of as the next big thing in Pakistani cricket and after a bright start to his International career the right hander lost his way and his position in the team.
Miandad further went on to say that selection should be purely based on form and should be reviewed series by series and the batsmen can’t be in the team even after 10 failures just on the back of one good score.
One would have thought that Ex Pakistani captain would have taken Babar Azam’s name as an exception to the rule, specially because the elegant batsmen is the only one in International cricket who finds himself in the Top 5 rankings in all formats. However, Miandad made no such exception but he did went to say that the country boasts of good bowlers. It will be interesting to see if anyone from the PCB chooses to respond to this statement.
