PCB earlier this week decided to ban Umar Akmal for a period of 3 years as a result of the talented batsman failing to report a match fixing approach to him. Earlier, in February, Akmal was suspended for breaching code 2.4.4 of PCB not once but twice. If a player is guilty of hiding such offers then he stands to be banned anywhere from a period of 6 months to a lifetime.
This is not the first time that Umar Akmal has found himself embroiled in a controversy as earlier had misbehaved with a member Pakistan’s NCA staff after failing a fitness test. Umar had resorted to obscenities and was indefinitely suspended. It is a shame that the guy who was supposed to be the next big thing has been involved in a slew of controversies and derailed his career.
Now his elder brother, Kamran Akmal who also finds himself out of favour with PCB and it’s selectors even after being by far the best batsman in the history of the PSL has reacted to his brother being banned. He said that this will hamper his younger brother’s career further and they would appeal further and ask the board to reconsider the quantum of punishment. In a dramatic statement, he went on to say that if proper evidence was found then his brother should be banned for life.
