Alastair Cook’s last Test Match was certainly a tail to remember. When they say-” You should retire on a high”, this is exactly what they mean!

The still young 33-year-old Cook was totally out of sorts before this game but when the going gets tough, the chef always got going. He came out with a lot more intent during this game and never looked unsettled during any phase of his innings. It was like the real ‘Alastair Cook’ finally stood up and every run of his was cheered by every single person at the Oval.

While he returned to form with a gutsy 71 in the first innings, he along with his captain Joe Root completely took away the game from India during the second innings. Cook was cruising along at 147 and just when the Indian bowlers had given up all hopes and the English fans were getting greedy to see a double ton, in came the debutant Hanuma Vihari and removed both Cook and Root in a matter of 2 balls.

As Cook was returning back to the pavilion, he got a kind of standing ovation which will certainly gave everyone goose-bumps. Everyone was up on their feet cherishing the celebrating the success of the highest run-scorer for England in Test Match Cricket. The former English Captain finished his Test Career with 12,472 runs and 33 test match hundreds to his name.

Just for the record, no other left-handed batsman in the history of test match cricket has scored more runs than Alastair Cook. Kumara Sangakkara did and was sitting pretty at 12,400 and meanwhile, Cook was at 12,254 before the Oval Game. The rest they say now is history!

While the #ThankYouChef has been trending on social media and everyone has been wishing him well via the micro-blogging site, one of the tweets came from the most unexpected quarters. From a man who Cook just a few days ago confessed he hasn’t spoken to ever since his fall out with the England Cricket Team when he was the captain.

Kevin Pietersen via the micro-blogging site highlighted the words- ‘Script Written’ and ‘Fairytale Ending’ and also thought that the left-handed batsman absolutely deserved it considering he had to face the new Duke ball for 12 years.
