Kumar Sangakkara is one of the all time great cricketers and currently holds the important position of the MCC President. While his antics on the field are surely praiseworthy, his commentary and point of view as an analyst is also not far behind. As is the trend with both past and present players these days, Sangakkara did a digital interaction with fellow commentator Pommie Mbangwa and answered a host of questions.
On being asked who according to him is the best bowler in the world currently, the southpaw said “When it comes to a fast bowler, in English conditions, you have to go with a guy like James Anderson; he is exceptional. But you also have to go with guys who can bowl in any conditions, so guys like Mitchell Starc, maybe even Jasprit Bumrah if he can keep his fitness. They are the kinds of bowlers who can challenge the batsmen with the kind of firepower they have.”
He also praised Nathan Lyon and called him the best spinner in the world currently. “I think when it comes to spin, you have to admire Nathan Lyon. What he has done over the last few years, it has been incredible. The way he has bowled, it was not easy for any orthodox bowler coming in the game with his modern-day batsmen. He is incredible, probably worth saying; he is the best spinner.”
When it came to batting, the Sri Lankan legend had no qualms in claiming that Virat Kohli is the best across formats. This is not the first time Sangakkara has praised Captain Kohli, he even predicted that Virat will break all batting records, by the time he finishes playing.
