Mahendra Singh Dhoni had a poor 2018 and was dropped from the team for the first time in his career. While the Indian Selectors might not have put it that way to give all the respect to the wicket-keeper batsman and deservingly so, Dhoni was indeed dropped- Period!
Having said that, the former Indian Captain has been one of the best cricketers to have ever played the ODI format and it’s true when they say, “They don’t make men like him anymore”. Many from the jury believe Dhoni to play a really integral part in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 if India is to emerge as the eventual champions.
He has experience, he has won 2 World Cup before, and when it’s time to separate the boys from the men is when the real Mahendra Singh Dhoni stands up. He is one of those who delivers when it matters the most by hitting the opposition hard. While many former pundits feel the Jharkhand Born cricketer will be crucial for India’s plans leading up to the World Cup, the latest to join the band-wagon is Mohammad Azharuddin.
The former right-handed batsman from Hyderabad in a recent Interview stated that not only will Dhoni make runs, his experience will also help Virat Kohli captain the side better during crunch situations. Azhar stressed on the fact that small things make a huge difference in cricket and the advice Dhoni will give to Kohli and his bowlers could certainly make a massive difference. He also added that the wicket-keeper batsman still has the potential to be the highest scorer for India in the ICC World Cup 2019.
