Not important to play a lot of cricket to be a successful T20 coach : Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir is showing wonderful leadership ability as a politician and humanitarian during these difficult Covid-19 days. His foundation, the Gautam Gambhir foundation was one of the first organisations that ordered PPE kits for the frontline warriors, in addition to the fact that they are providing poor households with free ration.

His leadership abilities are not limited to off field activities, and his record as KKR skipper proves that. Being a multiple IPL winning captain, one can be rest assured that Gambhir knows what he’s talking about as far as the shortest format is concerned. And although he has been effusive in his praise for Yuvraj Singh’s ability, he disagrees with his fellow southpaw on one thing.

Yuvraj recently raised doubts about the Vikram Rathour as the T20 batting coach due to his lack of experience in the format. However Gambhir had a completely different view when it came to a batting coach in T20 cricket. In fact, the successful Gambhir led KKR team, also had a limited international experience coach in Vijay Dahiya.

“It’s not important that you have played a lot of cricket, for you to be a very successful coach – probably, that’s right for a selector, but not for a coach. Probably you can just have a different T20 batting coach, just for that particular format. It is really not true that someone who hasn’t played international cricket or who hasn’t played enough cricket, can’t become a successful coach,” Gambhir said in the Star Sports telecasted show.
