Sources in the know have said that Cricket Australia in a letter has written to the ICC and member boards that it might not be able to pull off the 16 nation World T20 event this year. However, India and Australia have mutually decided to go ahead with India’s tour of Australia in December this year. Many believe that the postponement will open a perfect two month window for the BCCI to conduct the IPL in October November.
The PCB, however , in what could very will be a case of sour grapes, believes that this is a case of you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. Where there has been a trade off between the BCCI and Cricket Australia, that the BCCI agreed to India’s tour of Australia in these difficult circumstances, in turn for them raising their hands on the scheduling of the World T20 this year.
“We are in May and there is still time. The ICC members should wait and see where this Coronavirus pandemic goes. A decision on staging the event can be taken even after say two months. There is no cricket being played right now but in two months time we will know what is the position because West Indies and Pakistan are to play in England if things go according to plan,” the PCB official was quoted as saying by News18. “The IPL is a domestic event of the BCCI and cannot be given preference over ICC events or bilateral agreements. Pakistan will not support any such move,” the source said.
