Parthiv Patel was just 18 years old when India toured Australia in 2003-04, but his face was that of a 12 year old. That didn’t stop him from having a word or two with some serious stalwarts of the game. The series was a hard fought one and eventually ended up being a 1-1 draw which was an amazing result for India.
Who can forget the famous Parthiv Patel and Steve Waugh sledge, where the 18 year old was asking the man in his last series to play his favourite sweep shot. The veteran then came up with an epic reply and said ‘have some respect, you were in your nappies when I started playing for Australia’.
While this incident is quite famous, recently Parthiv Patel narrated another sledging incident from the tour. “I was carrying drinks in Brisbane, it was the match in which Irfan Pathan got him out. He had already scored a hundred, and it was a crucial stage when Irfan got him out. And I was just passing him by and I did a “hoo hoo” to him,” Parthiv recalled.
As expected that rubbed Hayden the wrong way and the big man was not happy. “He got so angry at me. He was standing at the Brisbane dressing room which is like a tunnel. He was standing there, and he said ‘if you do this again, i will punch your face’. I said ‘sorry’, I stood around and he went off,” Parthiv added.
