The IPL auction never ceases to throw up surprises and the latest edition of the glitzy affair was no different. They were as intense as everyone expected them to be, with different teams coming in with different goals. The likes of CSK and MI had a limited purse and came to the auction table with the intention to just finetune their already sorted outfits. On the other hand, teams like Kings XI Punjab and KKR showed up with very deep pockets looking to make wholesome changes their squad.
CSK has historically proved to be one of the smartest teams at the auction and this year they seemed to be very keen to grab leg-spinner Piyush Chawla. The whistle-podu army plays at Chepauk which happens to be a spin-friendly wicket. Piyush Chawla fetched a whopping 6..75 crores in the auction and ended up being the most expensive Indian at the IPL 2020 Auction.
The two-time IPL champion who was released by KKR in the transfer window this year reacted to his big payday by saying “There can’t be a better team than CSK to play for and better captain than MS Dhoni. As a player, you always want to be in a good team, play under a good captain and you can’t have a better team than CSK and a better leader than Mahi Bhai. I can’t ask for more.”
Piyush Chawla was a part of both the World T20 in 2007 and the World Cup in 2011 victorious squads under MS Dhoni. The U.P based cricketer is considered to be MS Dhoni’s lucky charm. It remains to be seen if he proves to be lucky in the IPL 2020.
What do you think? Did CSK spend too much on Piyush Chawla?? Or will it prove to be a good decision?? Do let us know in the comments section.
