Prime Minister Modi cites Yuvraj-Kaif Natwest final partnership to fight against Coronavirus


Yuvraj Singh and Mohammed Kaif will always be etched in the memories of the Indian cricket loving public owing to their legendary Natwest Trophy final partnership against England in 2002. The duo who were youngsters at the time became instant national sensations and were marked out as the partnership that would together fight future opponents.

It seems like Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of those Indians and he cited the same partnership to inspire Indians to fight against another opponent albeit off the field. That opponent is the deadly Coronavirus which has been declared as a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Mr Modi addressed the nation in his bid to spread awareness about the pandemic and requested the nation to observe a ‘Janata Curfew’ on 22nd March during which the citizens should avoid coming out of the house between 7am and 9pm. He further requested all national influencers, including the cricketing fraternity to spread further awareness about the curfew.

The cricket fraternity responded to the Prime Minister instantly and everyone from Virat Kohli to Ravi Shastri used their social media to spread this important message. Interestingly, both Mohammed Kaif and Yuvraj Singh also tweeted about the same and the Mr Modi skilfully took these two messages together and asked the countrymen to forge a similar partnership like the duo to fight the menace of Covid-19.
