The 2020 edition of the PSL will be remembered for a plethora of reasons and the most prominent would be that for the first time, the entirety of the tournament was played in Pakistan. While this was a huge cause for celebration for the cricket loving Pakistani public, it was sadly cut short by the pandemic that is Covid-19 and the knockouts had to be called-off.
However, that didn’t stop players from across the globe showcasing their talent, especially Pakistani youngsters. The young players had the opportunity to rub shoulders with proven international talents like Chris Lynn. This no doubt will hold them in good stead and the Pakistani selectors would have been impressed by youngsters like Haider Ali, Zeeshan Ashraf, Azam Khan (Moin Khan’s son) etc.
Renowned commentator and former World Cup winner Ramiz Raja reserved special praise for 19 year-old Haider Ali who was also a pivotal part of the U-19 Pakistan team in the just concluded World Cup. Raja went on to say that he had similar talent to that of Virat Kohli and Babar Azam but he still had to work on his game awareness and play longer innings.
It is interesting that Ramiz Raja made such comments just two days after Javed Miandad slammed the Pakistani batting line up and said that no batsman from the country would warrant a place in any top cricketing country of the world. It will be interesting to see if Miandad reacts to his countrymen’s statement.
