For quite some time it felt like someone of the caliber of ‘Dale Styen’ might actually go unsold in the IPL Auctions. It was quite a hard pill to swallow before the Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore decided to acquire his services in the final round of the auction.
RCB got a ‘Bumper Deal’ as the ‘Styen Gun’ was their own for just INR 2 crore but interestingly their coach Mike Hesson recently revealed that the right arm quick from South Africa was always a part of their plan and the only reason they did not bid for him earlier was the fact that they feared a bidding war and believed the stakes could have any time gone higher for somebody like a Steyn.
Hesson further added going for Steyn before the final round would have also revealed their entire auction strategy but they always had him on their buy-list. The coach revealed that he had a 2-hour text message marathon with captain Virat Kohli who had made it absolutely clear that he wanted the 36-year-old in his team owing to his prior experience playing for the RCB.
