The IPL 2020 auction took place recently and like always all the fans are busy making their favorite IPL team’s strongest starting XI in their notebooks. There is a huge buzz around the cash-rich league especially after an exhilarating auction day which saw the likes Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell and co have a huge payday. While those names were expected to rake in huge numbers there were a fair few surprises as well, be it Piyush Chawla going for 6.75 crores or Colin de Grandhomme finding no takers.
As expected, the owners are also in the spotlight assessing where they stand as far as team balance vis-a-vis their counterparts is concerned. According to an India Today report, the IPL starting date in 2020 would be 28th March which is giving sleepless nights to the owners. This is because there is a T20 series between Australia and New Zealand that will end on 28th March and an England-Sri Lanka test series which will end on the 31st of March. This will mean that these players will miss the initial part of the IPL.
While in private many franchise owners have raised this issue with IPL Governing council, the fact that nothing concrete has been announced still gives them a bit of hope. Franchises like Rajasthan Royals, for instance, will the likes of Steve Smith, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Joffra Archer for the initial bit. All these 4 players will potentially make their starting 11 and that means the team will start the IPL weakened, with a distinct disadvantage.
What do you think?? Should the governing council push the start date to the first week of April?? Let us know in the comments.
