Currently the BCCI is the only cricket board in the world that doesn’t allow it’s players to participate in overseas leagues. Even if the players are not centrally contracted they have to retire from the IPL in order to be eligible to play in leagues like the Big Bash. Suresh Raina, in a recent interaction with Irfan Pathan had suggested that BCCi change this rule.
Now Robin Uthappa has backed Suresh Raina’s claim and pleaded the forward thinking BCCI President allow players such as himself in overseas competitions. Uthappa is one of India’s most seasoned T20 campaigners and is one IPL’s most prolific run scorers.
“Please let us go, honest to God. It does hurt when we’re not allowed to go and play … It would be so nice if we could go and play at least a couple of others because as a student of the game you want to learn and grow as much as you can,” the 34-year-old told BBC.
“Ganguly is a very progressive thinking human being, someone who has always looked to take India to the next level. He actually laid the foundation for where India cricket is now. We’re hoping that he will look at this at some point,” he added.
