The spot-fixing tainted Mohammed Asif has recently been back in the news after the Pandora’s box about Pakistani players fixing and Justice Quayum’s report in the late 90’s was opened by the life banned Salim Malik. Asif, who earlier said that if players like Sharjeel and Amir can be given a second chance then what’s wrong with him as he also committed the same mistake as these guys.
Since then the former right-arm pacer has been regularly featuring in the Pakistani media and various YouTube platforms. He made another sensational statement about the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. He said that standing at square leg he saw Sachin closing his eyes, once or twice while facing Shoaib Akhtar’s fearsome bouncers. This was during the Karachi Test on India’s 2006 tour of Pakistan, the one in which Irfan Pathan took a hat trick in the first over.
It was a time when Sachin Tendulkar’s tennis elbow issues were at its peak and therefore it could have been that the Master was hampered by that.
“When we started bowling, Shoaib Akhtar bowled at express pace in that match. I was standing at square leg near the umpire and I myself saw that Tendulkar closed his eyes while facing one or two bouncers bowled by Shoaib. The Indians were playing on the back foot and we didn’t allow them to score even 240 in the first innings. We snatched victory from jaws of defeat,” he stated.
