Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar made a donation of 50 lakh in the fight against Covid-19 on Friday morning. Tendulkar becomes the latest amongst many global sporting legends like Rafael Nadal and Lionel Messi to pledge money to fight the menace and complete disaster that has come about due to the highly mutant Coronavirus.
At the time of writing this article, Covid-19 pandemic has claimed 17 Indian lives and wreaked havoc in the country. Amongst Indian sportspersons, the batting maestro’s contribution of half a crore has been the biggest so far. The Mumbaikar decided to adjudicate 25 lakh to the Prime Ministers Relief Fund and 25 lakh to the Chief Ministers Relief fund in his bid to help the underprivileged in these hard times.
One hopes that this motivates other Indian athletes to also donate some funds and it has already seen the Bangladeshi and Pakistani teams donating a part of their salaries to the respective relief funds of their countries. Although Sourav Ganguly has already made donations in a personal capacity, the BCCI which happens to be the richest cricketing board in the world is yet to announce any relief funds in a bid to fight the Covid-19. Leta all hope and pray that this difficult phase gets over quickly and normalcy is restored.
