After all the speculations, the selection committee led by MSK Prasad has finally announced India’s World Cup squad. Interestingly, it was the first time that such an event was held live on Star Sports where the Chief Selector MSK Prasad and BCCI secretary Amitabh Chaudhry addressed the media.
So who will India’s number 4 at the World Cup be? Well, the debate has finally been put to rest as surprisingly both Rishbah Pant and Ambati Rayudu were excluded from the squad. Dinesh Karthik and Vijay Shankar were included in their place instead. The selectors were quite impressed with Vijay Shankar in the limited opportunities he got and further added that even Kedar Jadhav or KL Rahul could bat at number 4 if the need arises.
As far as Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s back up was concerned, Dinesh Karthik would be in that ‘Avatar’ if the need arises. While it always has been a case after a teams selection in any sport, the jury was with and against the selectors in regards to the choices they made.
While many felt that Dinesh Karthik finally got the dues he deserved, many believed that Rishabh Pant is someone who could change the game single-handedly and should have been on that plane to England. There were many who also felt that Ambati Rayudu was given a raw deal and KL was offered more than he deserved. While we leave you with how Twitter reacted, we would love to know your opinion on this one. What’s your take on India’s selected 15 for the ICC World Cup 2019?
While Pant will be a bit confused given that he is the test keeper but has been left out on wicketkeeping skills, this caps an astonishing sequence of events for Dinesh Karthik. From being down and out in life to being at the World Cup. It is a story of hope.

It’s impossible to keep everyone happy with team selections but Karthik inclusion surprising. Selectors guilty of showing no consistency in his case. Discarded after Jan 2019 to select straight for the WC. Shankar is a lucky man to make it. #CricketLive #StarSports

Very surprised to see that @RishabPant777 not included in the world cup squad! He can change a game within a matter of few overs, would have also liked to see the likes of either Gill or Iyer included in the squad just to add more depth to the Middle order

Wasn’t Pant elevated to the top tier of the Central Contracts a few weeks back?? Not a certainty in two of the three formats. 😐🤨

6 mnths back, Mohammad Shami was nowhere near being considered for white ball cricket, but some outstanding performances has ensured he plays his 2nd World Cup. Him & Jadeja have fought their way back in .There will be few disappointed players but best wishes to Team India #CWC19 pic.twitter.com/tqjm2nAwAM

High voltage expectations from this group. Clearly they've chosen experience and patience in the form of @DineshKarthik. Middle order will be very interesting to see @klrahul11/@DineshKarthik could be at number 4. Rest seems sorted with @JadhavKedar and @msdhoni at number 5/6.

Still feel that India could have gone with a fourth seamer but having said that getting 14/15 right isn't too bad #CWC19

Feel Rishabh Pant should have been included. #CWC19
