Shahid Afridi faces flak from BJP leader
Ever since Shahid Afridi made irresponsible and provocative remarks about India and PM Modi, he has been drawing the ire of Indian fans. The Pakistani who once said that he gets more love from Indian than Pakistan will surely not be feeling the same way again.
The cricketing fraternity, including Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh, who very recently made a humanitarian appeal to donate to Afridi’s charity for the fight against Covid-19 have also condemned the maverick all-rounder’s statement. In fact, the generally very easy going Shikhar Dhawan also made it a point to rubbish Afridi’s claims. Of course the most sensational condemnation came from expected quarters in Gautam Gambhir. The southpaw called the former Pakistani cricketer, his Prime Minister and his army chief a bunch of jokers.
Now, senior leader from BJP, Ravinder Raina has also lambasted Afridi and reminded him of the beating he used to get from Indian batsman. “He (Afridi) should stop making insane statements against India. We know he is a disappointed and desperate cricketer of his time and used to get a beating whenever he used to come to bowl to the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid. He has not forgotten it,” Raina said as quoted by Times Now.
“Our army hoisted the Indian flag in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad in the 1965 war and created Bangladesh by dividing Pakistan (in 1971). They (Pakistan) sneaked clandestinely into the heights of Kargil (1999) but were beaten back by our brave army,” the Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief added.
