There are only two serious contenders when it comes to the best all rounder in the world currently. Yes, sure if we just restrict ourselves to T20 cricket, then there are quite a few bits and pieces cricketers who might qualify as all rounders. However, when we speak about out and out all rounders, across formats, it’s a competition between Ben Stokes and Shakib Al Hasan.
While Stokes has had many miracle performances in 2019 and even before that, one look at the record books, and numbers will tell you Shakib Al Hasan is the all rounder of this era. He edges past the Englishman in bowling as Ben Stokes is more a batting all rounder for England. Shakib on the other hand is Bangladesh’s best bowler and along with Mushfiq and Tamim, their best batsman.
The currently banned Bangladesh all rounder, recently in a talk show picked the best IPL XI he has played with. The southpaw chose David Warner and Robin Uthappa to open the batting, with Gautam Gambhir coming in at 1 down and leading the team. The next three to follow have all interestingly enough have played for both KKR and SRH. Manish Pandey, Shakib himself and Yusuf Pathan. His next two picks were unsurprisingly Russell and Narine. For his pace attack he chose Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Laxmipathy Balaji and Umesh Yadav.
