Shane Warne picked his greatest Indian Test 11 but the disclaimer is that he must have played against them atleast once. Therefore the likes of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni couldn’t find a place in the squad as Warne never played against them.
The one thing that stood out was that despite the presence of Kapil Dev in the team, Sourav Ganguly was chosen as the captain by the Victorian. Ganguly who many believe, has been India’s best test match skipper to date was included by the leggie ‘because he wanted the Prince of Kolkata to captain the team’.
The 708 test wicket-taker went on to pick Mohammed Azharuddin as his number 5, and Ganguly has been slated in to bat at 6 which led to the most surprising omission in the team. Australia’s nightmare VVS Laxman much to the surprise of many, didn’t find a place in Shane Warne’s team. Apart from that, Navjot Singh Sidhu found a place as an opener alongside Virender Sehwag and the man from Punjab drew special praise from the king of spin. The Australian went on to add that Sidhu was the best player of spin he had bowled against and therefore it’s a no brainer that he found a place in the team.
So here goes the spin wizard’s Indian all time 11.
1) Navjot Singh Sidhu
2) Virender Sehwag
3) Rahul Dravid
4) Sachin Tendulkar
5) Mohammed Azharuddin
6) Sourav Ganguly (c)
7) Kapil Dev
8) Harbhajan Singh
9) Nayan Mongia
10) Anil Kumble
11) Javagal Srinath
What do you guys think of this 11. Would you like to make any changes to Warnie’s team.
