The Covid-19 pandemic has well and truly brought the whole world and economies of countries to a complete standstill. One of the worst affected industries in this difficult period is the sporting and event industry. The reason is obvious as this industry requires a gathering of large crowd at a single place to flourish.
This, unfortunately is the opposite of ‘social distancing’ which is so very important in breaking the chain and flattening the curve. Cricket Australia is not sure that a crowd less T20 World Cup will make much sense and therefore the chances of the event happening as per schedule are bleak.
However, to make up the loss CA is mulling adding an additional test to the four match Border Gavaskar series to be held in December. Since in matches involving India, more revenue will come through broadcasting as compared to gate money. It will be interesting to see BCCI’s response to this proposal.
