Former express fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar slammed Younis Khan for his statement related to the English camp. Younis is the current batting coach of the Pakistan team. The side is in England to compete against the Three Lions. Akhtar was unhappy with his former colleague over a particular statement.
Younis had raised concerns over facing speedster Jofra Archer. The pace sensation is well known for his sheer pace and hitting the bodyline in order to intimidate batsmen. Younis termed Archer a ‘real match-winner’. Akhtar feels these sort of statements should not be made ahead of a big series.
“Archer has strong nerves which he proved while bowling a crucial super over in the World Cup final. He has bite in his bowling and his high arm action is very good and gives him nip in his bowling,” Younis Khan had said.
Akhtar insists the visitors shouldn’t be afraid of the rookie pacer. According to him, Pakistan has the talent to counter the England attack and its conditions. Akhtar however, showed his faith on the coach saying Younis should look to transfer his batting features to the youngsters. Younis is the only Pakistan cricketer with 10,000 runs under his belt.
“Younis Khan made a statement that we will have to be wary of Jofra Archer. He [Archer] is very intimidating and hits you [while bowling]. Younis Khan gives statements. He is a good man though. There is no need to fear Jofra Archer. Younis Khan said that they will have to play a bit defensively. I don’t know if he has said this or not. He [Younis] should not be giving these statements,” Shoaib Akhtar quipped.
The 44-year-old is quite popular on social media. Akhtar addresses his followers quite frequently and even urges them to stay fit and work on strengthening immunity.
