Irrespective of his antics on the field or his spot fixing allegations in the IPL, one can’t deny that the lad had immense talent and one of the best seam positions that one could imagine. While some of his behaviour on the field was borderline crazy, in between Sreesanth carved out a few brilliant spells of fast bowling that one could imagine. He was always an in your face kind of cricketer and would have actually relished playing under Kohli’s captaincy, who is somewhat like that, barr the dancing.
How can one forget his amazing spell in South Africa where he helped India skittle one of the best batting line ups including Smith, Kallis, Amla, De Villiers for 84 and helped India achieved a rare test win in the rainbow nation. Against, the same team, in the same country, albeit in a different format, Sreesanth again bowed brilliantly in a must win encounter in the 2007 World T20. However, his career defining performance came in the match against Australia in the semi final where he got the crucial scalps of Hayden and Gilchrist to help India win the game.
In a recent interview, the Kerala pacers spoke about Dhoni, who fired him up before the game. “Dhoni Bhai ne bhi chadhaya tha uss match se pehle. Wo bole ki yaar tu idhar udhar aggression dikhata hai ab Australia ke khilaf dikha aggression. I think it was more of a chaavi wala thing and I got fired at the right time,” Sreesanth said while speaking to Cow Corner Chronicles.
The above quote means, “Dhoni Bhai ignited me up before the match. He told not to show my aggression everywhere. Show it against the Australians. And this fired me up.”
