Ever since Virat Kohli has taken over the captaincy from MS Dhoni, the Delhi batsman has made a paradigm shift as far as the fitness levels in Indian cricket is concerned. As with everything else, the captain has lead from the front, when it comes to following a stric diet or hitting the gym, doing endurance training etc. In fact, not just in Indian cricket, but Virat has helped changed the fitness culture in the whole country.
While many still question the decision, Kohli ensured that the Yo-Yo test became compulsory for selection in the Indian squad. They haven’t quite cared about the reputation of the player if the person concerned had failed to clear the Yo-Yo test. There have been many players who bought into this culture and the overall fitness and fielding of the team has improved leaps and bounds in the recent past.
Here are 3 cricketers from India who managed to get a better score than Virat Kohli in the Yo-Yo test;
Manish Pandey – This comes as no surprise as Manish Pandey is fit as a fiddle even though he’s now just on the wrong side of 30. Some of his efforts on the field are a sight to behold. He managed a Yo-Yo score of 19.2 compared to Virat’s 19.
Mayank Dagar – Dagar hasn’t quite played for India, but he’s a regular member of the Himachal Pradesh team and is in the Kings XI Punjab squad as well. He managed to get a Yo-Yo score of 19.3.
Karun Nair – The only other triple centurion apart from Virender Sehwag, Karun Nair came back from the tour of England and worked hard on his fitness. The Karnataka batsman’s offical score hasn’t been released, but Shankar Basu the ex fitness trainer of team India admitted that Karun Nair pipped Virat’s score in the test.
