MS Dhoni is usually one of the calmest characters you would ever come across in the cricketing fraternity. They say- ” He is as cool as a cucumber” which he always is but what happened one fine day that someone with an icy-cool nature got all fired up? So much, that he actually stormed into the field from the dug-out to let the umpire how upset he actually was!
So the story goes as follows:
The incident happened during a CSK vs Rajasthan Royals match at Swai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. The ‘Yellow Army’ lead by Mahendra Singh Dhoni was chasing a target of 152 while they lost 4 early wickets reeling at 24-4. That’s when MSD joined hands with Ambati Rayuduu who was the only one who seemed to be timing it well. The duo stitched a wonderful partnership and just when it seemed CSK will cruise though, Rayudu lost his wicket at a crucial juncture which stalled the momentum back in Rajasthan’s favor.
It all went down to the wire at the end, just the way Dhoni always like his meal, as Chennai required 18 of the last over while the captain had Sir Jadeja for company. Ben Stokes was the bowler in question who was handed the responsibility of bowling the last over once again and everyone’s memories joggled back to 2016- Remember the name- Carlos Braithwaite?
Moving on, Stokes fumbled as the first 2 deliveries, thanks to a no-ball cost 11 runs while it further came down to 7 runs in 4 balls with Dhoni on strike. This was to be easily Chennai’s game but surprisingly the captain faltered as the English all-rounder send his stumps fo a cart-wheel and Rajasthan once again believed they can! 7 from 3 – Ben Stokes steaming in with the new man Mitchell Santner on strike who he heaved it towards long-on for a double. While both Jadeja and Santner believed that the delivery was above waste-height and rightly so, the no-ball siren also started buzzing which wasn’t surprising either.
Having said that, the square-leg umpire had still not signaled a no-ball and was surprised how the backend team pressed the hooter without his go-ahead. In the end, the decision had to stay as a legitimate delivery which made the ‘Yellow Army’ absolutely furious. So much, that their captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni who just returned back to the pavilion came out storming while he started to put his point across to the umpires. Dhoni looked furious to an extent that none of his fans would have or maybe ever will see this ‘Avatar’ of his ever again! Thala was like an angry young man while nobody could believe he is the same Captain Cool.
