Such is the admiration for Virat that any new batsman that shows some kind of promise is straight away compared to the Indian captain. In a recent interaction with Sanjay Manjrekar, the former fast bowler claimed that both of them would have been great friends off the field but fierce rivals on it. “Virat Kohli would have been best of my friends because both of us are Punjabis and we have similar kind of nature, even though he is a lot junior to me, I really respect him. We would have been best of the friends, but on the field, we would have been the best of the enemies,” Akhtar stated
